2016 was an excellent year for the 8.2 Obstacle Course race (OCR) events with a new and exciting race added to our portfolio. This was the East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) ‘Only the Brave’ race which took place at Elveden near Thetford in March. Over 1200 people attended this first event and the response has been fantastic. Due to its popularity and feedback from the participants we are now running a weekend of OCR’s in April 2017 for the EAAA and hoping to attract 2400 runners.
Our ongoing partnership with the Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) is flourishing. As well as the two OCR events which now take place within England the RMHC have also asked if we could look into running another near their hospices in Edinburgh. The two events which are well established are the northern event which takes place in Walesby and for the southern event this takes place in Hambleden. Many of the runners are staff from the McDonald restaurant’s who come in fancy dress and have a really fun time completing these challenging, wet and muddy courses.
The Suffolk Whole Hog is our flagship OCR and we celebrates 10 years in 2016 since it first started. Number have increased over this period to over 1200. Many local and national charities benefit from this event and 2017 will be bigger and better with more investment in the obstacles. We have also improved the parking provision to make it easier for the participants and spectators to attend this popular annual event.
In 2017 we have agreed to work with WaterAid on two new OCR events. One will be in the north and the other near to London. Site visits are taking place over the next few months and it looks likely the events will take place in the autumn. WaterAid are a huge International Charity and we are proud to be working with them on these new events.
